ACANTI Auleriano (CANATI Valeriano) – Il Roccolo ditirambo di Valeriano Acanti Acc. Olimpico Vicentino – 1754. In Venezia, nella Stamperia Pezzana. Half vellum, limp cardboard, handwritten title on the front board; folio, cm 28 x 21,1; pp. (2b) (XII) [XIII – XXIV] 67 (5b); text block a little bit loosen, minor stain at the upper edge of the first and last leaves, although a very good copy overall, on crispy and fresh paper, wide margins. Allegorical bucolic copper engraved illustration at the title page (motto: “Agitante calescimus illo”), engraved initials, other two little bucolic copper engraved illustrations at page 1 and 67, both engraved by Domenico Cunego from Verona, as well as the large folding tipped in plate depicting the count Ghellini’s hunting garden (“il roccolo”) and the villa. Scarce first edition of this poem, written by the author when – some years before – he was guest at the Ghellini’s maison. In it, Canati speaks about several different Venetian wines, just like the Prosecco, actually this work is the first historical document which mentions this wine ever. The book’s title takes origin from the hunting garden at the villa, used from the Counts to hunt birds (this Roccolo unfortunately is not existing anymore, while the House is still in place, although restored). Very important enology work, not easy to find in internal very good shape, such as this specimen, and with the large folding engraving still present
