BAROTTI Giovanni Andrea – Memorie Istoriche di Letterati Ferraresi opera postuma di Giannandrea Barotti volume primo – 1777. In Ferrara, nella Stamperia Camerale. Half vellum, raised bands, marbled boards, red-sprayed edges; folio, cm 39,6 x 27,3; pagg. (4b) (2) VIII 344 (4b); a few wormholes at the spine, little damages at the edges of both boards, extremely fresh and clean internals (only exception: a minor water stain in a couple of the final gatherings), overall a good copy, printed on strong and crispy paper. Allegorical frontispiece, full page engraved title page, Pius VI portrait, city view of Ferrara at ***r, Ferrara’s Ducato map at ****v shown by a little putto, 28 full-page portraits ( illustration of the Borso’s investiture from Frederick III at pag 94) presumably engraved by Giovanni Battista Galli, richly engraved headings, initials and ending (most of them representing medals or Ferrara’s monuments). The first – posthumous (the author died in 1772) – edition of the Memorie, edited by the author’s son, Lorenzo. In them, Barotti outlines the the lives of the following important personalities of the Ferrara’s golden age: Alberto d’Este, Niccolò III d’Este, (S.) Caterina de Vegri, Lionello d’Este, Borso d’Este, Lodovico Carbone, Girolamo Savonarola, Matteo Maria Boiardo, Gian Maria Riminaldi, Ercole I d’Este, Giovanni Bianchini, Fino Fini, Tito Vespasiano Strozzi, Ercole Strozzi, Antonio Tebaldeo, the Cardinal Ippolito I d’Este, Giacopino Riminaldi, Ludovico Ariosto, Bartolomeo Ferrino, Gabriele Ariosto, Celio Calcagnini, Giovanni Manardo, Ercole II d’Este, Lilio Giraldi, Alberto Lollio, Cintio Giovambattista Giraldi, Flavio Antonio Giraldi, the Cardinal Ippolito II d’Este, Orazio Ariosto and Ippolito Riminaldi (for each of those a portrait is present, aside for Bartolomeo Ferrino, Gabriele Ariosto and Flavio Antonio Giraldi).
