CAVALLI Atanasio – Delle apparizioni, ed operazioni de’ spiriti. Dissertazione del P. Atanagio Cavalli reggente di S. Teologia nel Convento de’ Carmelitani di Torino – 1765. In Milano, per Federigo Agnelli. Coeval half vellum, marbled boards, handwritten title on a paper label on the spine; octavo, cm 18 x 12; pp. (2b) (6) CCLXIX (5b); very slight scrapes at the boards, old ownership notes on the titlepage, very good internal condition, wide margins. Handwritten note at the end paper and old library label at the first blank. Important and scarce first edition of this work, which apparently had its origins when Cavalli was staying in the Turin Carmelite Monastery. It seems that he experienced several strange events, such as objects moving, unusual lights and noises, which he cannot explain following the scientific method. All this led him to write about the spirits and his main attempt was to classify these phenomena, although he had a very limited experience with them, trying to collect other proofs and tales about the spiritism and occultism.
