Basileae, per Thomama Guarinum. Full 17th century leather with gilded frame and floral motif at the boards, raised bands; folio, cm 34,5; pp. (2b) (20) 13 (1b) leaves [14-441] (25); front board and first blank detached, rear board weakened, restored internal edges of the boards, as well the spine, the last two sheets with a restore at the external upper corner (with loss of text at the last one), some foxing, otherwise a good copy. Old 18th century hanwritten ownership note at the title page, as well as a private stamp, typographic brand at the title page (repeated at the last page of the volume), full-page Author’s portrait at the titlepage’s verso, large number of emblems in woodcut in the text. Unquestionably, one of the most important Renaissance works on Egyptology and hieroglyphics. Here in a nice illustrated typographic guise made up by dozens of woodcut. The work was firstly published in 1556, in Basel – just like this edition – and was the results of decades of studies by the Author
