Eighteenth-century fronts in full leather with double golden fillet perimeter, spine in twentieth-century thin leather, with typed titles on applied paper inserts, embossed nerves, paved endpapers and sprayed edges; octavo, 21 cm; pp. (2b) (24) 680 (10) (3b); fronts weakened and very tired in correspondence of the hinges, with some peeling and almost detached from the spine, first blank leaves partially detached, very fresh interiors, rusted paper. Beautiful allegorical copper engraved frontispiece, title page framed in double fillet with woodcut vignette, beautiful copper engraved portrait of the Author (by Dario Varotari the younger), woodcut initials and vignettes in the text, additional 25 full-page copper plates in the text. First (rare on the market) edition of this classic of Venetian literature. This is a curious and valuable poem in eight cantos (or “winds”, “venti”, from the wind rose) in Venetian dialect in the form of a dialogue, talking about paintings and artists. All embellished with a beautiful iconographic apparatus that consists of twenty-seven copper plates, all aimed at bringing out and excelling the Venetian flair in the artistic field
