Coeval rustic cardboard with handwritten titles on the spine and visible nerves at the hinges; octavo, 20 cm; pp. (12) 64 55 54 60 (8); slightly loose binding, slightly browned title page and booklet of the table, internal margins of the table leaves with reinforced materials, overall more than a good copy. Woodcut typographic mark on the title page, engraved friezes and vignettes, talking drop caps, dozens of figures engraved in the text plus some with double-page out-of-text pages. Beautiful and very important edition of gnomonics. One of the first treatises on the making of solar instruments. This copy in particular is considerably embellished for having been the personal study copy of the Ferrara mathematician Ambrogio Baruffaldi, who affixes his autographed ownership note to the title page, dated 1730; inside there are handwritten notes by a younger hand, dating back to the end of the 18th century, therefore conceivable by the then young Girolamo jr.
